Welcome to Rake Hey Farm, a 16th century grade II listed farmhouse on the Pennine hills and a short distance from the market town of Todmorden.
We have lived here for over 15 years and have renovated both the farmhouse and the adjacent barn during this time. We love our home and we hope you will too.
Rake Hey Farm is situated in the rural countryside of West Yorkshire, in the middle of wonderful scenery provided by the three valleys which surround it. We have a network of walking, mountain biking, riding and hiking trails on our doorstep and numerous birds, and wildlife around the property (see the activities page for more on this).
We are a 5-minute drive from the centre of Todmorden, a market town with a rich industrial history in the area of Calderdale. Worth checking out are the beautiful Town Hall, the Hippodrome Theatre and the canal (a nice walk with many locks). In Todmorden you will find an indoor and outdoor market, several independent shops selling local produce, supermarkets and various cafes and restaurants which offer a variety of local and international cuisines, from fine dining to great pub grub and of course traditional Yorkshire Roast Dinners with the quintessential Yorkshire puddings!
Just a few miles away, Hebden Bridge is a quirky town with a relaxed air, lots of boutique shops, cafés and the historic picture house. From here it is easy to head over the moors to Top Withins and the Bronte Waterfall, the inspiration for Wuthering Heights and to the town of Haworth and the Parsonage Museum which commemorates the famous Bronte family who lived there. The area is also a must for steam railway enthusiasts who will enjoy the thriving Worth Valley Railway.
Calderdale (sometimes known as Haliwood!) is well known for it’s big and little screen appearances – Gentleman Jack, Happy Valley, Peaky Blinders, Last Tango in Halifax, Ackley Bridge, Marvel’s Secret Invasion, The Gallows Pole, Boat Story, The Jetty and A Gentleman In Moscow – with more being filmed all the time.
We‘re also home to at least 22 official reservoirs – including the highest beach in England at Gaddings Dam. Great for dogs who love water and people who love walking.
Manchester, Bradford and Leeds are all a short train ride away. Head over to Halifax to visit Eureka, the National Children’s Museum, Gentleman Jack’s Shibden Hall, the Piece Hall or catch a live performance at Victoria Theatre.
